Upgrade tips (version 2 to 3)

The primary purpose of version 3 of LSMC and the associated game updates is to alter the folders that it uses on a PC. These changes will vary depending on the version of Windows that you are using. Older OS's may not make any changes.

These changes were made to solve problems associated with limited account users working with LSMC, and to seperate users files from each other.

Earlier versions placed (by default) all files in the LSMC sub folder in the Program Files folder. A typical path would be;

C:\Program Files\LSMC

If you are working on a version of Windows that LSMC deems appropriate (ie XP) it will create a new folder typically in the users 'My Documents' folder, ie;

C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\My Documents\LSMC

This is where all data relating to you will be stored. Sub-folders will be created in this folder as needed, such as for templates and reports. The naming of these folders will match those for earlier versions, however there will not be a 'Games' sub-folder which would have previously held some of these sub-folders and the history files.

This knowledge is required so you may relocate your syndicate files and your templates etc to your own new default folders. Here are some example folder addresses.

C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\My Documents\LSMC\Reports
C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\My Documents\LSMC\Syndicates
C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\My Documents\LSMC\Lotto Templates

If you make use of templates etc, this is where you need to move them to. You can create a new template for a given game or create a report, and LSMC will create these folders for you. Once created, it will be easier to move your files.

Q. Why not get LSMC to move the files?

LSMC does not know to which user on the PC each of the files belong.

Shared History Files

Assuming the OS is suitable, history files are now stored in a shared folder, ie;

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Darwinian Software\LSMC

This folder can be difficult to navigate to, so LSMC has a new menu item under the Game menu to open this folder. If history files already exist in the old 'Games' subfolder in the application's folder, then thay will be used and saved to this new shared folder. For this reason, you will not need to move any history files. However you need to remember that this is the new location of the files if you ever download the history files again.
